Gutter Protection

Gutter Installation, Replacement, and Maintenance

Seamless aluminum and steel gutters, leaf guards, downspout flushing, and full-system replacements — sized for the roof above and the drainage below.

Gutters fail in two directions: water that doesn't drain (clogged downspouts, undersized troughs, bad pitch) backs up into the fascia and rots it. Water that drains in the wrong place undermines the foundation. Both problems show up as expensive interior repairs years later.

We install seamless gutters cut to length on the driveway, replace failing systems with the right capacity for the roof above, clean and flush every fall, and repair leaks and sagging without ripping out everything that still works.

Why ice damming is a Wisconsin gutter problem

Ice dams form when warm air from the attic melts snow on the upper roof, the meltwater runs down to the cold eaves, and refreezes — building a wall of ice that backs water up under the shingles. Properly pitched gutters and clean downspouts don't prevent ice damming on their own, but a clogged or sagging gutter system makes it dramatically worse. Cleaning, flushing, and re-pitching every couple of years is the cheapest insurance against winter water damage.

Frequently asked questions

How often should Madison homes have their gutters cleaned?
Twice a year for most homes — once in spring after the maple seeds drop, and once in late fall after leaves come down. Homes near pines or oaks may need a third cleaning. Defender Shield members get one cleaning included, with a downspout flush.
Do gutter guards actually work?
The good ones, yes. Micromesh and reverse-curve guards keep most debris out and reduce cleaning frequency to once every 2–3 years. Cheap plastic screens clog within a year and trap moisture against the trough. We install the systems we'd put on our own homes.
What size gutters do I need?
5-inch K-style for most Madison homes. 6-inch when the roof above is large, steep, or pine-shaded. Undersized gutters overflow in heavy rain — common on Madison ranch additions where the original gutter was sized for a smaller roof.
Can you repair my gutters or do I need full replacement?
Often we can repair. Re-pitching, re-hanging, replacing a sagging section, and resealing seams keep most systems running another 5–10 years. Full replacement makes sense when the trough itself is rotted through or the fascia behind it has failed.
